Gangtey trek, from Zasa to Chorten Karpo route

Although the trek is possible throughout the winter, the best time for the Gangte Trek is between March-May and Sept-Nov. It is a short and relatively easy trek with several beautiful villages and monasteries en route.

The trail winds through forests of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendrons and over small streams of cold, clear mountain water. This trek is an excellent choice for those visitors not accustomed to trekking in the mountains as it offers beautiful views of the country with mostly gentle, forested slopes. The best time for this trek is between September-May.

Detailed Itinerary [We can also customize as per your requirement]

Day 1:

Phobjhikha – Zasa Distance: 15 kilometers Trekking time : 6-7 Hours, Camp Altitude 3130 meter, 610 meter ascent, 410 meter descent.

The trek begins near the village of Tabiting in the Phobjikha Valley. The trails winds along the beautiful meadows and fields of the valley and the ascent takes you through a forest full of Juniper, Bamboo, Magnolia and Rhododendron trees to the Tsele La pass which is at an altitude of 3430 meters. The trail descends down intoi the JugeKangkha valley on to the village of Gogona which is famous for its Gogona Cheese. The campsite is located a little further besides a small stream in a pasture called Zasa.

Day 2:

Zasa- ChortenKarpo, Distance 16 kilometers, Trekking time 5-7 hours, Camp Altitude 3330 meters, 450 meter ascent, 860 meter descent.

A gentle scent leads upto the Shobe La pass at an altitude of 3,480 meters. We then begin a descent down to a wide valley, which is surrounded by a series of beautiful ranges on all sides. You will also see the village of Khotokha, located below your trekking trail.  Later in the day you will begin a gentle ascent upto your campsite which is located close to four Chortens. 

Day 3:

ChortenKarpo – TikkeZampa. Distance-12 Kilometers, Trekking Time: 4hours, 120 meter ascent, 1340 meter decent. In the morning you will gently climb up to a forest road, from where you will walk along to a ridge at an altitude of 2800 meter from where you will begin you decent back into the valley. This trek offers you the chance of walking though one of the world’s best bird watching areas. During the winter months you might be able to catch a glimpse of the rare Tibetan Black Necked Crane

Day 4:

After early breakfast, drive to Paro Airport for onward journey.

SURCHARGE

Individual tourists and smaller groups of less than three persons shall be subject to the following surcharges:

a)    Single Individual: US$ 40/ per night halt

b)    Group of 2: US$ 30/ per person per night halt

c)    The 10% agency commission payable to agents abroad shall not be deductible from the surcharge.

d)  The surcharge will not be applicable to representatives of foreign travel agents on business study or promotional visit duly approved and cleared by TCB.
